Privacy Policy

The short version

Who we are

RiceMaps ("we", "us") is a map for finding restaurants that serve rice dishes. It is operated by caecus.dev. Questions about this policy can go to hello@caecus.xyz.

Information we collect

Information you give us. The "List your restaurant" and "Suggest a spot" forms ask for a restaurant name, an optional email address, an optional address or website, and an optional message. At the moment these forms do not send anything to us. What you type is saved only in your own browser. If we turn on server submissions in the future, we will update this page first and use what you send only to review your suggestion or reply to you.

Your location. If you tap "Near me", your browser asks for permission to share your location. If you allow it, the map moves to where you are. That happens in your browser. If you are in an area that we have not already loaded, your approximate coordinates are sent to a public map-data service (Overpass, which serves OpenStreetMap data) to look up nearby restaurants. We don't receive, keep, or log your location.

Places you save. Your saved places and some temporary map results are stored in your browser's local storage. They never leave your device unless you clear them, and you can remove them at any time by clearing this site's data in your browser settings.

Server logs. Like any website, the servers that host RiceMaps automatically record basic technical information when a page is requested, such as your IP address, the date and time, the page requested, and your browser type. We (and our hosting provider) use these logs to keep the site running and secure. We don't use them to identify or track individual visitors.

Other services your browser contacts

To show the map, your browser loads files from a few outside services. They receive your IP address and ordinary request details, and each has its own privacy policy.

Some pages link out to other sites (for example restaurant websites, OpenStreetMap, or Google Maps for directions). Once you leave RiceMaps, that site's policy applies. This privacy page itself loads no outside resources.

Cookies and tracking

We don't set cookies and we don't use advertising or analytics trackers. If that changes, we will say so here and, where the law requires it, ask for your consent first.

How we use information

We use the limited information above only to run the site, keep it secure, and (if you contact us) to respond to you. We don't sell your personal information, and we don't share it for advertising.

Where restaurant information comes from

Restaurant names, addresses, and locations come from OpenStreetMap, a map built by volunteers, and are shown under its open license (© OpenStreetMap contributors). This is business information, not information about visitors. If a listing about your business is wrong, contact us at hello@caecus.xyz and we'll look into it, and you can also correct it on OpenStreetMap directly.

How long we keep information

We don't keep visitor information ourselves, beyond the routine server logs kept by our hosting provider for the period set by that provider. Anything stored in your browser stays there until you delete it.

Your choices and rights

Children

RiceMaps is a general-audience site and is not directed at children under 13. We don't knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has sent us information, please contact us and we will delete it.

Security

The site is served over HTTPS. No method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure, but we collect very little, which limits what could ever be exposed.

Changes to this policy

If we add features that change how information is handled (for example accounts, user reviews and ratings, or form submissions), we will update this page and the "Last updated" date before they go live.
